Our Future Must be Inclusive

I am a female. I have daughters & a son.

I am disabled.

I have five people in my life that I consider my best friends: two of these are amazing gay women, one is a wonderful Hispanic woman.

I cannot believe that the people of this nation would elect a man like Trump to be the face of our nation.

I understand the desire for change, but change is not quick and change (for the better) does not happen by moving backwards.

Trump's campaign was built on & sold hate, division, disregard for human rights, and shock value. I am saddened by the state our nation is in and where I fear it is going.

Republicans cannot preach "smaller government" but continue to insist on government regulating people's personal lives.

We must teach our daughters that they should not allow men to treat them as they have no choice & teach our sons that the Trump's behavior that has been highlighted is not and never will be acceptable. We must embrace our differences & the contributions that minorities have given to our nation. We must embrace those who are different than us & move forward to uphold the constitution and the protections (for everyone) it provides.

We must continue to fight for equality and continue moving forward and hold our government accountable so that we do not revert back to four, 10, 20, even 50 years ago. We must fight for what is right.

I sincerely hope that the President-Elect finds his humanity and stops his attack on amazing, everyday Americans. This should no longer be the country where male, white privilege reigns supreme. We need a nation that values EVERY AMERICAN.

Melisa is a stay at home mother of three who cares and wants to be the change she wishes to see in our society.
